Why We're Partnering with Jackie Toth
The best comms work in nuclear happens when the right people stop competing and start collaborating — which is exactly why we're teaming up with New Hill Consulting.
At Big Red Oak, we spend a lot of time telling the nuclear industry that it's stronger together. Collaboration, partnership, shared problem-solving — that's how the sector wins collectively. It would be a little hypocritical of us not to practice it ourselves.
So I'm genuinely excited to share that we're partnering with Jackie Toth and New Hill Consulting. If you work anywhere near US nuclear, you may already know her. If you don't, you should.
Who Jackie Is
Jackie is the founder of New Hill Consulting, a Washington, D.C.-based firm working across clean energy with a real specialty in nuclear. She launched it in 2024 after a decade in energy communications — but the part of her background that makes her rare is where she started.
Jackie came up as a journalist, covering energy and environment policy on Capitol Hill and across the federal agencies: the EPA, the Department of Energy, Interior, the NRC. From there she moved into advocacy, pushing for clean energy policy — nuclear included — at the federal level. That combination matters. Most firms in this space can offer maybe two of the three things clients actually need: strong writing, real connections to policymakers, and genuine subject-matter depth. Jackie brings all three.
Her work today is exactly as varied as that background suggests. In a given week she might be drafting op-eds and press releases, writing research reports and policy memos, arranging media interviews, and sitting across from nuclear startup C-suites, energy analysts, and current and former officials. She knows how to pitch reporters because she used to be one. She knows how policy moves because she spent ten years tracking it.
Why This Partnership Makes Sense
The honest answer is that neither of us can be everything to everyone, and we'd rather tell clients the truth about that.
A lot of firms present themselves as having every capability in-house. Most of the time, that's not quite the full picture — there are usually subcontractors somewhere in the mix. We'd rather be upfront. Jackie brings deep U.S. policy experience and credibility on the ground in Washington. Big Red Oak brings years of work alongside the heavyweights of the sector — Westinghouse, Cameco, Bruce Power, OPG, CNL, Framatome and a point of view on what it takes to make complex, regulated industries legible to the people who matter.
Put those together and clients get the full suite of expert communications support without having to stitch three consultancies together themselves. That's the value: less headache, more depth, and two partners who are honest about where one ends and the other begins.
There's also a cross-border logic to it. Big Red Oak is Canadian; New Hill is U.S.-based. We're not competing across that line — we're learning from each other across it. When both countries work together, it's better for our clients and better for the expertise we can export globally.
What We Believe
As our Founder, Lee de Lang puts it, so much of communications comes down to trust building. Nuclear, more than almost any sector, needs competent support in building it and nothing in this industry speaks for itself.
That's the belief at the heart of this partnership. We think the sector deserves comms work that's thoughtful, forward-looking, and grounded in both policy reality and creative craft. Together, we think we can deliver it.
If you're working in nuclear and want to talk, both of our doors are open. You can learn more about Jackie's work at newhillconsulting.com — or reach out to us directly. We'd love to work with you.
